Vendor News from Arlon Graphics
In the third of a four-part series, we continue our case study of examining McDonald’s use of protective laminates to safeguard their fleet graphics program.
The second type of protection is PVC Substrate Lamination, a clear laminate film that is applied directly to the printed media. There are many benefits to using PVC over liquid laminates. Substrate laminates are known for their ease of application as they increase the thickness of the graphic, making it more stable and easier to handle. It also eliminates the need for transfer tape, which can make panel registration more difficult and the added step to remove it.
Another benefit of a thicker graphic – it’s easier to remove at the end of its service life, minimizing the costly process of graphics removal. Substrate laminates offer UV protection and come in many finishes, ranging from high gloss to satin and matte. The greatest advantage of using substrate laminate is its superior abrasion protection. It costs slightly higher, but the McDonald’s fleet uses it to protect from foliage and harsh road conditions.
